Floating Village and Crocodiles

We had the opportunity to board a boat, "Watch your head please!" (what the children running the boat would say to all of us) and take a ride thru a floating village at Tonle Sap Lake, one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia.

While it felt kind of strange just wandering right into their little neighborhoods.  Most of the people that live there are actually Vietnamese.  There was a Christian church, a school, even a basketball court right on the water.  People rowing their boats, doing laundry, swimming, relaxing in hammocks, trying to turn their houseboats the right direction...just trying to live their lives on water.  There was even a cat which made me laugh.

We landed at a little tourist spot where there was a pit of crocodiles.  Brooke had been asking and trying to see a crocodile anytime we passed water so we were excited for her to see some.  There were a ton just swimming and laying around.  Kyler decided to entertain us all by buying a fish to feed the crocodiles.  It was pretty funny until the fish started bleeding everywhere, then it was just gross.  Little kids in buckets would float around with giant snakes for people to hold for $1.00.  There was a platform you could climb up to see the view.

It was fun to drive through new areas of town and see a different way of life.  I don't know if I could ever live on water like that, but some people have little choice.

Oh and how can I forget the siting of "Cambodian David"...
yikes! lol
